Yeah both were V6's... no luck on the V8's...but since money and time were constraints for me it was either one of the two trucks or a new Caliber... well we all know what I choose :-P
$3,000...that's roughly what I was figuring as the difference when I bought my 4x2...I couldn't afford the difference...plus I used the 4x4 feature of my old truck twice in two years...wasn't worth it either.
I use 4 high as a safety feature. Sitting at a light trying to accelerate like a granny in the rain and the rears still spun. There's another intersection I'm at near work where it's uphill, hard right, and dirt from construction. The tires always make noise there even when I purposely try not to. It's also near a garbage transfer station so the trucks are always dripping **** every where. In the Sentra I could get thru there without the tires slipping. In the rain they usually slipped anyway. Haven't been thru that intersection in the wet with the truck yet.
Other than the test drive and trying to figure out how 4 low works, I've not used it at all. Once I get a boat tho, I would imagine it will help on slimy boat ramps. Even so, I'd trade the 4x4 part for SLT, V8 and manual.
