Airbag Indicator lights
I just have a small question...I have an 05 dakota...luv the truck...only problem is I got into an accident ( yea im ashamed to admit it [sm=headbang.gif]) and $4000 later I started having this problem where my air bag indicator lights would come off and on. the one lightis telling me that the passenger side airbag is off, and the other light is on the dash next to my other indicator lights, is just a red airbag light. So I took it back to dodge to have it looked at, they said lights are ok, everything is acctually ok...well lights went away for awhile, now they are coming off and on again. What I want to know is should I worry about my airbags being defective or its just something going wrong with the lights themselves. Has anyone had this problem before and what was the outcome?
Thank you in advance for the help.

Do you have anything leaning against the back of one of the front seats? It could be just be a negative weight light. I had that happen when I worked for the dealer and all I had to do was move my stuff.
had mine back several times they cant figure it out. its a huge safety issue and i might be getting a new truck! if they cant fix it howcan theytell methat its working right?? thats my argument they tried to tell me its my aftermarket navi/dvd that they installed anyway its all b/s you can fight this you paid for functioning airbags how do you know they are going to work if you need them?

If everything is OK then there's no light.....if you've got a light then no everything isn't OK. FORCE THE ISSUE and make the dealership fix it.

The stereo will not effect the CAN... the only thing the CAN controls is the radios power...
Aftermarket stereos will not adversly effect the saftey systems in trucks. if they did, they would not allow metra or any other aftermarket company to sell aftermarket wireing harness'... Besides that point... our airbags are independant of accessories and will operate under a lot more adverse conditions.
Make the dealer fix it or replace it. The light tells you if its working or not... if it doesnt work 100% of the time, make them fix it. you dont want that 1% of the time to be when you need them.

While I agree that radios/stereos shouldn't impact something as serious as airbags I can't discount the first hand evidence that they do.
they installed the metra unit after my first unit fried so they got me a new one and used the metra product either way it should work with and without a factory radio. that light is so annoying.

Also, techs hate working on airbags because more techs die every die doing that than anything else, usually due to carelessness, such as sitting in the seat while manipulating the system with tools in your hand... and the airbag goes off, shoving said tool into their face of chest...

Well, let me ask this... I have a rather large sound system in my truck... all of which I installed myself. I have never had an airbag light, and I used a simple aftermarket wiring adapter and antenna adapter.
I have also installed many aftermarket radios in newer dodge vehicles and have yet to have an airbag light problem.
The only thing I can think of that would cause this would be where the installer pulled the switched power from. (since its controlled by the can you have to go to a different location for that power source.)

Now that I think about the situation more...I remeber talking about it with my parents about the accident, i t-boned someone going like 30-35 miles an hour, the airbags never went off, should they off? I thought airbags go off like around 15 or so, that was our concern again with the lights when we took it back to dodge, and they said nothing was wrong....
