Well this use to be a very simple thing and it still might be but as in the past it was just jumper the relay but the function is now handled by the puter with the CAN-B program. It handles the turning off the fogs when the highs are on and also handles the battery saver for the fogs if left on once the key is pulled. So the relay set up is not what it uses to be. If 12V is still supplied to the fogs once the highs are turn on this will work but theputer may see it as a malfunction. Also if you have auto light function it is also tied into this but the fogs should turn off with the headlights in any case. If anyone has done this with a GEN III please chime in. I'lllook at the circuit in the service manual when I get home from work and chime back in later.

hey babygotdak , i am running this on mine. the o.e.m. foglight relay uses a negative ground trigger to turn the foglights on .i used another relay toswitch ground to the o.e.m. relaywhen thehighbeams are on. tap on to the highbeam wire, run this to the switch terminal on the#2relay. then wire the battery terminal on#2 relayto ground. then send the output terminal on #2 relayto the switch terminal on the o.e.m. relay.instead of relaying + (battery) it switches ground. i ran this on my 2002 dakota also. hope this helps !!!!!

I drew one up based on his instructions. Although, I took the assumption that the Relay terminal that is usually ground(-) to be battery(+). Scott didn't say...so here ya go. He should confirm it right tho.

***Just noticed: I believe it's slightly wrong with the info given by Scott. I should have shown the fog light not being grounded I guess but as + b/c I set it up as the relay's receiving a ground to cut lights on.

The only downsides I can see with that is:
[ul][*]You can't turn them off when your highs are on.[*]Amperage draw on alternator[/ul]
The amp draw could be bad for those with efans, audio systems, etc

But what if your running a battery cap with your audio system? I'm not a stereo guru but my younger brother swears by them. I know they are there for that extra punch/draw from the stereo but wouldn't this help eliminate the amount of power that a system would draw from the alternator?

Of course you could be like the jackasses with more money than brain cells and run your auxilary sytems from an independant battery.

Just a thought...

Just wondering why you would want the fogs on when the highs are on. I make no judgement, just trying to figure out the benifits to the work.

If you got the "Trailer Tow Group" with your Dakota, then it should come with an upgraded alternator and battery.

I have the tow package and only remember hearing transmission cooler in that deal...

Either way if one didn't it could still pose a prob.
