Default Short Bed Question

Ok, so my Dak and my Harley are both in NY, and Im in mississippi on mission for the next 3 months. When I get back to Wisconsin, my mom is bringing them both back out to me. My question is, Is it possible to get my harley in the back? It's the quad cab Short bed, and my Harley is 85 Inches long. I figure I probably wont be able to do it straight, but maybe at an angle? any help would be muchly appreciated.

do it the right way. spend a few dollars and rent a u-haul trailer one way. they are pretty cheap. i have seen to many people try and go up ramps to put bikes in there bed and fall on there ***. and if you dont have a hitch some places would even deliver them for you.

If got the tow package, so Ive got the hitch. I was just curious, but I suppose doing it the right way is better than the wrong.

the hard part is geting a bike up a ramp like superdak said. We loaded a harly classic tour bike up a ramp into a horse trailer one time and it made it half way before it laid over

I load a tractor in my club cab bed and with using two ramps it is not an easy thing so I could only imagine how much harder it would be to load a heavy bike using one ramp. My bed with the tailgate down is i think 95 inches long so I don't think the bike would fit in the quad cab bed anyway.

I wouldn't want to roll a Harley up a ramp into a pickup bed but it's been done plenty of times. A loading dock situation would certainly be much better though.

Anyway, I just went out and measured my bed. From corner to corner with the gate up is right around 84-85". So, with the gate down, it should fit cross-corner. I don't know if I would trust the tie downs though, especially those plastic pieces of crap AND traveling over 1000 miles with it in the bed that way. I'd get a trailer if it was mine.

I just did a quick check on Uhaul and it says a 4'X8' enclosed or 4'X9' open trailer will run between $300-350 from NY state to Mississppi. Definitely the best bet.

don't know if the tail gate would hold the weight of a road bike on a long haul.
its pretty light weight.
but mine is never in a truck or trailer.

The motorcycle trailers from U-haul are for local use only...that is one thing I looked at when I moved from Chicago to Tampa. You are better off getting one of the small trailers but you will still have to drill some holes and put in eyebolts (and hope they don't notice the holes) to have a place to strap the bike down.

According to Uhaul's website, this kind of trailer is available for one way rental. It's a 5X9 and shouldn't be any problem tying down a bike.

for the $300-400 it would cost to rent a trailer, why not just buy http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=94564

then build it custom and then its yours for close to the same price?
