I bought my truck used. One of the two remote entry keys that came with it doesn't work. The key will turn the lock and so on, but the lock/open buttons don't work. I replaced the battery and it still doesn't work. How do I get a new one? From the dealer? Thanks for the help.

 

It may have just lost its programming, in which case just have the dealer or a locksmith re-program the key.Otherwise you'llhave to go the dealer to buy a newone and have it programmed to the car. NOT cheap

 

It looks like it was dropped in some kind of liquid, or something, somewhere along the way. I think its damaged beyond repair.

 

Around here they are like 120...

How long do the batteries last? I just got to work, and could not lock my truck with the key. I was able to lock it old school (manually). If I pull the battery out, will I lose the programming? Thanks.

 

Buy the key at the dealer, but your owners manuel tells you how to program it if you have 1 working key. That will save you some money.

 

Thanks. I opened the key thinking it was the battery, but found that the solder connection holding the battery to the printed circuit board had come loose. I went to the closest dealer, and they told me they would need the truck for at least one whole day, and would need both of my keys (in case the second one needs to be programmed!), and the cost would be $200. Needless to say, I left. I will be following rmudbug's suggestion. BTW, rmudbugs,what part of Louisiana are you in. I lived there some years ago, but have been gone for 20+ years.
