I do not believe there are any immediate plans for it. There was some discussion of them puttin in the CRD from the Liberty a few years back but Chyrsler in there wisdom gambles no one would want power AND fuel economy, and so just keeps making there v8's bigger. There is a discussion going on at another board debating a few comments from the auto world about the Dakota either being cancelled after the current edition runs its course, or being replaced with a Nissan / Dodge joint effort to replace the dakota and the Titan....

The Dakota WILL NOT get the 3.0, however, it WILL get a new 4.6L V6 Cummins Turbo Diesel in 09-10.

Latest rumors have it that Chrysler may axe the Dakota and replace it with a version of the Nissan Fronteir while the Nissan Titan would be replaced by a version of the Ram. Keep in mind these are just guesses by analysts I got from reading Autoblog and nothing official.

I wish somebody at chrysler would have the ***** to anounce something. If they put a diesel in the dakota that got 20mpg or more I would trade in my 05 in a heartbeat. Instead with gas expected to hit 3.50 or more per gallon by summer I may have to ditch my dakota for something else like maybe a jeep patriot.

The ram 1500 V8 CTD is expected to get 20/25, so I would imagine the smaller V6 in a smaller truck would get something like 25/30... Btw, the patriot wont get any better mileage than your dakota

You are wrong about that the worst mileage I could expect from a patriot is 17mpg. The best I get is 15 and thats all city driving so the patriot is better. According to my calculations I could expect to save 600 buck or more a year on gas with the patriot.

And thats if you only get 17, real world may be better, a friend of mine is getting 19-20 consitently.
I like the Frontiers and as much as I like the DAk, I think a colloboration between Nissan and Dodge could probably come up with a pretty good truck.

in response to bionic, this is why all new generation dakota owners are retarded. Nissan is not even on the same level as Dodge.

Yeah bacsue you know, Nissan frontirs aren't supported by the aftermarket, aren't more fuel effiecint, and don't have to be in the shop 2 weeks of every other month........ those are all the things that would make a nissan/dodge joint venture a great idea.

I guess we are all stupid and wnat a truck that runs good and is recognized by the aftermarket as a viable vehicle for something other than driving back to the dealer reapir center.
