Default indash dvd

hi all,
so not so long ago i posted up pics of my indash dvd player made by phase linear(model uv8)and i kinda went on a rant about how circuit city false advertised the player.
so icalled corperate and voiced my opinion there too. someone finally got back to me today and told me to return my player and that they would upgrade meto the jensen vm9312.the only problem is i gotta pay 50 bucks. but in the end its worth it. i payed 250 for my old player andthe one im gettin today costs 450.

incase you didnt see the old post here is the player i have now

So whats wrong with the player you have now? And did circuit city install it? I would like to get one but don't know much abou them, I assume it works as both a radio and a dvd player?

there was nothing really wrong with the unit. and i installed it myself. it does function as a radio/cd player/ and dvd player. the reason i got it was because i was under the impression i could plug my ipod into it and display it and control it off the monitor and that was not the case. but the new one im gettin has that capibility.

eric, how much would a goodpioneer or alpine go for?
one that i can control my ipod off the monitor?

Honestly... if you are going with an indash.......... Alpine and pioneer make the best units. You will pay more for them, but you get a great unit that will last.

Eclipse and Kenwood ar good too, but the alpine and pioneers (avic series) are the best from what I have read/seen.
never been a pioneer fan....i am a big alpine fan when it comes to head units but ive been out of the game for a while and things change fast....i know if i was out lookin for something head unit wise, it would be an alpine or eclipse, posabilly kenwood....i always thought poineer was middle of the road, but thats my my opinion

also, idk if eclipse still does, but they used to cover theft

I am going to build a truck PC instead of an indash... if I find the time/money.
I've thought about this many times, the main problem is I want my stereo to just work, and a PC takes more maintenance and tweaking to keep it running well. The expense is also a bit of a put-off as is my worry about sound quality of a PC sound card vs a dedicated Head Unit from a company like Alpine. It's very tempting though... If you haven't yet check out mp3car.com, LOTS of good information there for building car PC's.

I worry that it could be, not saying it will be

I just have a hard time imagining it holding up reliably, I'm sure it's completely irrational but you know how that is sometimes
