Bed Covers
I think I may have the same one as Patman. The vinyl says Tanneu Masters and the frame has a hinge towards the back with a cross-brace near the front that engages locking bars under the lip of the bed to hold it down and a couple of gas shocks to hold it up at an angle when its opened.
I originally bought it when I first got my 05 Dak and then moved it to my new 07 model. The move was pretty easy, but I had some trouble with the clamps holding the gas shocks sliding back after the move, so I bought an additional pair to brace them and since then no issues.
As far as looks, I have neglected it pretty badly, so its not as shiny as when I first bought it, but the vinyl is still in perfect shape and some vinyl shiner and a good cleaning would probably have it looking like new.
If you know ahead of time that you are going to haul something, you can unsnap the back and pop-out the hinge pins then leave it at home. However, if you forget (like I just did yesterday) and have to haul your mother-in-laws's brand new fridge/freezer from the Sears surplus store in south Detroit to Toledo (about 40ish miles I think), you can roll-up the vinyl and move the back brace forward, then remove the whole things, insert the fridge (standing upright with the back flush to the cab and facing the front of the truck), then put your 75 lbs sand bags on either side, then strap the fridge on, put the toneau frame back in place and drive home slowly (at about 41 mph down Telegraph road with people passing you like crazy because the speed limit is between 45-55mph, but worrying that I should have put more straps on that monster refridgerator!)

growler, the description there sounds just like mine. and the other thing i found to fix that sliding problem was to loosen the supports and put some cardboard or something else in there and then tighten them back up.
I second the roll top by Pace Edwards, just installed mine this weekend and I feel I got a really good deal on it. 521.00 shipped brand new. It took about two hours to install and that is without the clamp kit. Looks great, secure and functional.
I've had the Extang Tuff Tonno cover on for 3 years now. It has the j-strip along the edge, which does a good job of keeping things sealed. It's a little hard to work with when it's cold as the material gets stiff and it takes some work to get it fastened as the cover doesn't want to stretch. But, have always managed to get it closed up.
I broke one of the plastic do-hickeys that holds the back end down to the side rails. Extang sent be a pair of new ones, no charge and no questions asked.

I have the four fold hard tonneau cover that I ordered from the Dodge Dealer after I purchased my truck, it was expensive, around $700 or $800, but it's nice because I can lock my gear in my bed without worrying about anyone breaking in. I know there is an aftermarket version of this tonneau cover for around $500 which is reasonalbe in my opinion. Also, it keep the water and snow out of the bed so everything stays dry. As mentioned before, the downside is that the last panel stays bolted to the bed rails so you "loose" the last quarter of the bed. I still think it's worth it just for the fact that you can lock your bed.
blackdak 06 I doubt your 4 piece flip was a mopar item but I cou;d be wrong.
I have the bakfip on my dakota and am very impressed. It installed in seconds, fit perfectly and with an extra tailgate locking latch ensures that your gear is safer than a vinal top. Better than a 1 piece fiberglass imo as you can fold it all the way up when you need to fit something in your box unexpectantly. I ordered direct from manufacturer all the way from texas to Alberta and saved big $. http://www.bakfliptonneaucover.com/

The Foldacover does not allow the section nearest the cab to fold out of the way. It will flip toward the back of the truck for access but not toward the cab. I have a foldacover that has the Mopar logos embossed into the rubber lock covers so Dodge must have offered this style as a factory aftermarket option at one time.
The Backflip does allow all 4 sections to fold out of the way for full bed access.
No just stating that I don't like my foldacover. Also, another thought, with this cover the last section by the cab does not
fold out of the way and you would have to remover 4 allen screws, and then all four sectionsof the cover at one time, to use the full length of the bed for anything taller than the sides of the bed.

Finally got rid of the POS Foldacover, I just couldn't live with it anymore. All the hinges were leaking and the section by the tailgate weighed about four times what it should because it was full of water. When I called to complain about it being full of water they offered to sell me a new section for$245.00.
i now have a beautiful new UnderCover Hard Tonneau
