Bad Gas Mileage
I have a 2005 Dakota Quad Cab, 4.7 V8, 27,000 miles. Since December I have averaged 8 MPG city driving. No check engine lights or codes. I had it back to the dealer, they changed the O2 sensors, but it didn't help. I bought the truck in May 2007 and would get between 12 and 13 MPG city. I installed a K&N air filter, but it didn't change the mileage. Any ideas on what this problem could be? Other than the mileage, the truck seems to be running OK.
I can get 8 if I leadfoot it, and 19 if I go all highway. Crazy range of fuel on these things. Have you taken any highway trips lately to see what you get cruising? Do your brakes wear out fast? Reason I ask is I have seen MC's go bad in the way that the residual valves in them stick causing horrible gas mileage and brakes go in about 6k or so.
Damn dude. And I complain because I only get 12-13 around town with my 05 QC 4.7 manny tranny. Are you sure you're not dragging an anchor?[&:]

I have been having teh same problem since christmas, the weekend before christmas it was like 25-35 degrees outside, i made 2 long trips about 200 miles each all highway. I got 190 miles a tank roughly, i had it at the dealer they said nothing wrong, it is very annoying. I also use a fuel addative, CA-40g, still getting crap mileage.
If you live in a cold climate you will get worse gas mileage in the winter because of the winter blend fuel. I have an 05 club cab V8 4x4.I am lucky to get 12 mpg in the winter. Summer I get 14.5 to 15mpg doing all city type driving. The best thing to do is install an electric fan. You will see at least 2 mpg more. The key to getting better gas mileage in the winter besides going light on the go pedal is to get the engine up to operating temperature as quickly as possible. An electric fan will allow this to happen because it only comes on when needed.
