Default Tow Hitch?

I have an 06 SLT, and am looking into getting a hitch, what size frame do we have, I was looking at a Class V for a 36" frame, would this fit our trucks?

i,m pretty sure that the crossmember for the frame rails is already there. you just need to bolt the receiver hitch to it.

The factory hitch is rated at 3500 GTW and 350lb tongue weight. If you have weight distribution equipment, it is rated at 7700lb GTW and 770lb tongue weight. A class V is somewhere beyond those values. I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone makes a class V for our trucks.

First thing's first, what do you have for an engine?4.7 or 3.7Dodge factory install tow hitch is class IV if you want a V it'll have to be costum.
Dodge did one better for factory tow kits,on the V8 Magnum's they installed one extra leaf spring, tow haul button (which change's shifting patterns for heavy loads)bigger batt and altinator, plug & play wire harness under thedash, tow mirrors ect.....

Tow cap for a non 4X4 is 7K a 4X4 tow cap is 6,840,Im not sureabout the High output ratings,I'll bet there the same.

Donkeypunch is right, you'll need weight distribution bars to accomadate for the extra weight and also help keep your front end down on the ground,in reality your max tow weight is 5,100lbs.I know you can haul greater lbs.its just a question on how far you want to push the envelope.

Blu, this is my first truck with the tow package. I just noticed the plug & play harness under the dash the other day (have only had this Dak for 3 weeks). What is it for?

It's for a trailer brake controller. Many heavier trailers have electric trailer brakes and you will need a brake controller to set the strength of those brakes (depending on how much weight you're pulling, you'll want more or less braking power on behalf of the trailer). They're pretty easy to wire up and mount...took about an hour as I recall.

I got my hitch for my 3.7 from Uhaul for $100. It's just a piece that goes over the cross member under the rear bumper, it seems very solid and is a class IV i want to say. you should check it out.

Silver, that light blue thing is the female adapter for the brake harness.if your buying the trailer privet sale try to negotiate the brake into the sale,if not you are going to have to buy one regardless. You can buy electronic brakes just about anywhere,Wal-mart,Auto Zone and other car stores, also RV/ camper dealers sell them and also install them for short money. If you know your way around a pair ofwire crimpersand can line up color to color your all set to installthe brake yourself,I mounted mine in that recessedpart under the radio just left to the 4X4 control ****,that location put the brake out of the way, give's it good looks and proper functioning angle for the brake to work.Yup,these things need to be in a proper pitch to work right. You'll see all of the info that come's with the brake.Blu_

I have been meaning to ask about brake controllers for a while. I have an 07 Dak with the factory tow package. Anyone know if there is a brake controller made that will fit that little open cubby hole next to the 4wd ****? I assumed that it was there for a Mopar controller but don't know where to look for one. I have seen some cheap controllers at Walmart, but don't think they would fit in ther and would have to get mounted under the dash somewhere and would not look as good.
