RE: gas mileage 2005 Dakota
I had an 05 club cab automaticwith the V8 4x4 Lsd rear. I loved it. The best city mileage I could get was 15mpg. That was after I added an electric fan. My budget wouldn't allow for the 50 bucks a week I was spending for gas so I got rid of it. Hated to do it. The Dakota is a really good truck exept for the suspension. If I would have got a raise at work this year I would still be driving it.

I have the '05 4.7 Quad and get about 15-16 city. It is thirsty that is why I drive it now only on weekends and drive my Honda everyday to work. My neighboor has the V6 and drives to Chicago every weekend and gets about 22 highway. Neither of us do towing to justify the need for the extra power...I just liked the touch of the V8 when I floored that pedal. Ichoose the 4.7 also because it is a proven engine that was used at the time onthe Grand Cherokees.

I have an '05 Quad with the 4.7L V8. Gives me around 16 mpg in city/suburban driving, and not much better than 18 mpg on the highway at 75 mph. I've made that same highway run, 450 miles round trip to the mountains, at 65 mph and the gas mileage improved to around 20 mpg overall.
I was really expecting a little better on the highway, especially holding it down to 65.

Anyone know if those "fuel mileage chips" on ebay work? They seem to good to be true. I have an 05 with the 4.7. The gas is fine on it's own, but pulling my trailer, the mileage drops to around 7mpg.

RE: gas mileage 2005 Dakota
Quite a coincidence Dakotahub. My '01 Ram 5.9 was great for towing and rode very well on the highway. It got about 14 mpg around the city and at the time I didn't need it for towing very often. I traded it for the Dak because I thought the 7,000 tow rating and smaller truck would be perfect. Now with $3.00+ gas, the Dak is in my garage and I drive a Corolla(37 mpg). Hindsight says I should have kept the Ram and gotten the Corolla back then.
