Jet chip plunge
Well I finally picked up a stage 2. I was tired of waiting for someone else to notproduce on promissed programmers. I know many have had mixed results but I had to try it. I waited until I had the intake, TB and muffler system done before doing this.
Install was a breeze after reading other posts, I made sure it was seated all the way.
I did not install the 180 stat but its coldoutside and getting hot was not an issue.
Results after initial test:I have the HO motor which was fairly healthy, limmiting factor was the ECM holding back power in first gearbecause of torque management.
Well the Jet dosen't override the torque managment system which I knew(still sucks though). The chip did improve partial throttle accelleration quite alot, especially up hills and entering freeway on ramps. Throttle responce is more crisp overall. It was blowing 25-30 MPH today so didn't have a chance to Gtech it yet, will when able though. The truck had alot of power after 45mph already so its hard to say that it has alot more without a dyno, but it runs great. In the cool winter the motor already makes plenty of low end power so I think i will see more benefits in the low end during the summer (hope to keep the torque management system busy). I will keep an eye on the gas milage, when I not stomping on it, to see if it helps out a little.
So as many have said its not a neck snapping addition, but it definatey showed improvements in power and responce. If fuel milage improves, I will be very happy. every little bit helps..........

are u also running 89 or 92 octane gas aswell?
i am looking into improving my 3.7L with the tb and air filter and exhaust and all that but when i looked at the jet chip and it sad that it has to run with 89 or 92 octane i was like errrrr
89 is at $1.20 per litre here! thats alittle much as it would cost me $72 to fill 60L
so what are u running and did it make a difference if u switch octane?

Torque management really sucks. DC performance made a great chip for the SRT10 QCs. It got rid of the torque mgt. and gave back about 85 hp on the automatic equipped trucks. It takes off over 1/2 a second in the quarter on them. WIsh they would make something for the dakotas.
The thermostat sets the water temp regardless of outside temp. The 180 degree one will help prevent detonation.
The improved performance in cold weather is due to the temp of incoming air, not water temp. That's why a CAI will help improve performance.

04firedak- I'm running premium 92 Oct, I ran it anyways for the HO motor. It wasn't madatory but to get the best performance it needs it.
Soapy-couldn't agree more. I think an anti torque management chip or program would do more for these trucks than CAI, muffler,TB combined. Wish some one would put out a simple product instead of having to send off the ECU to get flashed.
rick4dak-correct, its just in the winter my water temp won't go over the stock setting, which I thought was 190, where even a 180 stat in the summer will run hotter than my stock in the winter. The stat will open at the set temp and try to maintain it, however,it needs a cold enough air temp or alot of flow to maintain an actual 180 temp. i've run across this alot with my BB olds 455 when messing around with stats.
I willchange it out later this spring or summer.

I emailed a guy that sells Jet chips about it fitting my 08 4.7 because their listing shows it fitting from 05-08. He told me that Jet says they work for the new 4.7, but that makes no sense to me. From what I've seen and read, the only thing the same with this new engine and held over from the older 4.7 is the block. So how can the same chip work for this one AND the last style of 4.7?

I have not had a chance to get any good G-tech #s yet. The weather has been sucky to say the least. This week it should improve so maybe I can get some data. I do feel better low to mid throttle responce from it as I metioned earlier. It has less hesitation during part throttle accleration. I'm not sure that it will get much better 0-60 as the pcm torqe management still holds it back. I think it will do a little better in the qtr times but not huge. When you add 10-20 hp on a 4900 lb truck its not going to rock you. I think the drivability has improved and should be stronger in the warmer wx. I, like you, would like to get some #s though instead of my seat of the pants or guessing. I would love to get on a dyno just to see where its at. What really matters though is how it drives. I've yet to take it on a road trip either for a milage check.
