New member and retarded question
I picked up my 06 slt about 4 weeks ago. she runs great and i love this truck. i'm trying to simply check my psi but the valve stems have these blue caps which i can't seem to get off. has anyone ever seen these before? i
've worked on cars and bikes quite a bit but these things have me baffled. i'm thinking they twist off. but i've tried all four with no succcess, being careful not to heavy hand them and end up with a flat tire.
do i twist these suckers off or what? thanks

Not a retarded question. I have these on my truck in chrome. But to prevent the local kids from stealing them for their bikes, I use a pair of pliers to hold the valve stem and crank the caps with a wrench. 3/8 I think. Take them off the same way.
those are anodized aluminum which reacts with the brass stems creating a white "rust"-like substance (it has a chemical name which escapes me at the moment)that seizes one to the other. deer hunter's method of removal will work. if you want to be anally careful use a brass cleaner ("Barkeeper's Freind" or "Lime-Away") to disolve the corrosion and then break them loose. w-d 40 might work too. a little grease or vasiline will keep it from hapening again.
to prevent caps from rusting/seizing, you may want to put light of vaseline or anti-seize on the threats to prevent the white rust substance from freezing the cap to the stem.

The dealers around here put those on to show that the tires are filled with nitrogen and not air...
My truck came with good old black twisties.

all good info. thanks fellas. i hit them with pb blaster this evening and will go at them more confidently in the morning.
age old question, but i gotta get the mpg's up on this thing which are hovering around 16-17 highway.
i'm not trying to make this thing a race car but i gotta kill some of the restriction to get the gas mileage up. can anyone suggest a good intake and cat back exhaust setup?
I don't know where to start on an intake, but i like the looks and buildof the Gibson exhausts...
