Default Trailer hitch and harness

I seem to have a lot of questions, but here is another. I looked under the rear of our Dak, which has a hitch ball on the bumper. Underneath, there is what appears to be a trailer hitch that has two 'ears' where I assume the receiver attaches. The structure is about 2.5 inch heavy steel rubing and is firmly attached to both sides of the frame. Couild this be a ClassII or III hitch? If so, where would I find a receiver? Also, both the owner's manual and the Chilton book talk about the 4 or 7-pin trailer lighting harness that is supposed to be part of the vehicle wiring harness. I know usually, they have fittings in the wiring harnes for any possible accessories. There is no plug for a trailer harness to attach to. the owner's manual cautions against tieing into the wirng harnes, but how else would you hook up a trailer harness plug?

It should be attached the the trailer hitch receiver under your bumper. It's a round plastic cover with a hinge on it.

The lower picture is what you want and it is just missing the receiver right?

The above picture is a classIV hitch that comeswith the tow package. It sounds like you have the hitch with out the tow package, where the receiver is MIA, and alsothe different rear wiring harness. I am sure if you want the factory hitch you can buy it through dodge. I do have the part number (52013184AD)for the entire tow packagehitch assembly. I imagine the only reason they caution tying into the harness is to protect against liablity. Hope this helps

I think my wife bought the whole thing off of ebay (I think)...

This looks like same place she bought it from...running the harness was not that bad...only one place where I had to cut and solder some wires...all the rest was plug and play....

I bought mine from the dealer. It was just the lower peice that has the hitch reciever and 7-way mounting bracket. It took a whol 10 min. to install.

The factory wiring harness was not that bad. You have to splice one wire. Took about an hour.
