Hypermilage Attempt
412 miles and the fuel light hasn't come on yet. I'm going to fill up tomorrow morning, hopefully with less than 17.9 gallons, for an average of 23 MPG.
Let us know the verdict...I'm rather interested to hear.
I've been driving relatively slow, too...it's tough to keep it under 65 on the highway....I feel like the other motorists are going to run me off the road. I usually average between 65-70. I'm getting 18.5 to 20 mpgs depending on how much around town stuff I do.

Thewonders of curing the leadfoot syndrome.
I have been alittle lighter on the acceleration and braking and its like magic
the mpgs are going up. I try to keep the Rpms below 2200, but every once in awhile my foot triespushingthrough the floorboard. Its weird, andthen sometimes I justhafta hear the intakewhile blowingthe doors off the little ricers next to me

THE RESULTS ARE IN
423.3 miles this morning at the Shell station, still no gas light.
Filled up with only 16.4 gallons for:
25.8 MPG!!!!!
Hayoooooooo take that EPA! I actually think there is still room for improvement. I'm going to work on my technique and see how I do on this tank. A 29% improvement just through driving style.

damn... at that rate you could get over 500 miles per tank. im jealous. i think my best has been 16.3 last tank.
and im the same way. i dunno if i keep it below 2200, but i try and keep it below 3000 (kinda difficult with an auto, but a6 speedswap would be rather costly). but every so often you just gotta hear the truck, otherwise the $300 exhaust and $250 intake are worthless!

Two or three tanks will be a more representative study for sure, but I was shocked at these results. I'm slighly suspicious that the pumps at this Shell station shut off earlier than others, but I gave it a couple bonus squeezes after the pump clicked. I think 16.4 gallons was pretty close to a 100% fill up. Even if I was a full gallon short, I still broke 24 MPG.
That's very impressive. I don't think a V-8 could do quite that good, but I could see 23-24 mpgs as a good possibility. Good to know that, if driven the right way, these engines can be fuel efficient.
It would be nice to have cruise but I don't and i just feel like I am lagging along at 70mph because I drive on the interstate all the time, so I usually do about 80 which I am sure is killing me at the pumps. I definitely think I will be buying a cruise kit soon.
