So being a tech, you know that sludge is carbon right?
also, how long does it take sludge to develope? 2k miles? maybe?

How long to develop? All depends on the condition of the engine. EDIT: It should not develop at all.
I do 3-5k oil changes on most of my vehicles. All monitured with by Blackstone Labs. You can pull the pan on my "beater" car (100K on it) and find ZERO sludge in the bottom. I know this as I just did a pan gasket on it.
If someone is devolping sludge, we have to look at why? Improper maint? Poor oil? Short trips? Etc.
If sludge develops in 2K, then there is a serious problem.
EDIT: I don't want this to turn into a pissing match. I have seen that happend before, and that is not my intention.

RE: where to put it?
I run synthetic, and run atleast midgrade gas. I do oil analysis every other oil change (or 3rd depending on cash on hand)
I get a low level of deposits in every analysis, but when I cut my filter top off, I find "sludge"
It might not be in fact sludge, but seafoam cleared it up and my next filter was in great shape.
I also gained around a half an MPG...
So I am saying what I experienced... and now you cant say that anyone who uses it is waiting money. HA! -jk-

RE: where to put it?
Lets try and keep this simple so maybe others can follow along.
What is it that you think you find in your filter?
Questions for you,
Your trips, how long are they?
Do you ever do any short trips? 10 miles or less?
What I think you are finding in your filter is infact the Seafoam and any "dirt" it may have picked up. The oil is what normaly "grabs" the dirt, but the Seafaom may also be grabbing it and holding it until the filter gets it.
It is not good that you find sludge, I just hope ot is not in an isolated area of the filter and whatever it is, is spread thru-out the filter element evenly. You would not want you filter to clog. I may be way off base with what I just said, as I do not know the amount of "sludge" you are finding.
Best way to avoid it, use a good oil and filter, change it when needed. You choice on when, but at the very least, follow owners manual.
Get engine up to full operating temps.
Keep it tuned up.
Sludge, it comes from problems. A few are:
Ring wear
Valve guide/seal wear
Oil getting into the breather system.

RE: where to put it?
well, it is in one spot in the filter... usually the very top of it. (or bottom maybe but on the opposite side of the threaded part that seals to the engine.)
Its not seafoam, it did it before the seafoam. after it doesnt have it anymore. (or atleast the last change didnt...)
I drive a wide variety of mileages, ranging from probably around 4 or 5 miles, to 100 a day... I always bring my truck up to temp, have with all my vehicles.
I run Mobile 1 full syn with a napa gold (WIX) filter.
I dont beat on my truck and I run good gas in it. (atleast mid grade 89 octain)

Don't mean to bring this thread back from the dead, I was gonna start a new thread but found this one-- I don't think the answer to the OP's question was ever answered. At just over 50k miles, I'm looking to possibly run some Seafoam through my truck, but as the OP asked, where is the brake booster line? If possible, can someone post a pic of which one to remove?
