Default Good ole dak....

Well just thought i'd give everyone an update on my dak. As gas prices rise, i'm very thankful to drive a truck that does decent on fuel. Went up north to work for a week or so, and was pretty impressed with the dak's mileage.....at times. I was pulling a fairly hefty trailer (5000lb ish) into the wind on the way up and managed 15 mpg which I thought was decent since the trailer bucked a lot of wind. And on the way home managed 18!

I'm running the 4.7, auto tranny with tow/haul, 4.10 limited slip rear (at least i think its 4:10, whatever the lowest one available is...)TRX package, stock bfg a/t 265-70-16. I really have to watch myself however, cuz if I get into it too much my mileage drops considerably. I've had the truck almost two years now, and you just learn little tricks to keep it reasonable.

After averaging~18 mpg, I was surprised to see last weeks~14mpg. Then I rememberedmy weekend boating trip (2 hrs towing,19ft bowrider ~2000lb, 4 passengers & gear. Although not quite as heavyas your load,Ifelt the same... 14mpg whentowingis fairly decent.

Mostly flat road towing, the one significant hill climbslowed me down from 55-60mph to about 40-45, butI expected as much with the 3.7 & 4spd auto trans. Heck, my manual 3spd5.7L Blazer doesn't do much better on the hill and itaverages~9 mpg towing.

Also as aside note, I do not have the tow package, just a2" ball on the bumper.Engine and trans temps were ok,no overheating when using thetow/haul button(i.e. no overdrive).

Yup I hear ya bud, before I got the dak I had a 93 GM truck with a 5.7 and this little dak equals or surpases that old beast in towing any day! We have one hill on the way to the lake that we have to climb, and my little v8 dak tows a trailer better up that hill than that 5.7 GM truck~

wonder why the lower gearing helsp w/ MPG's... the higher geared guys all seem to get lower MPG's.
If i'm right I think it's because the lower geared trucks get up to highway speed with less push from the motor....I think if we all cruised at say 100mph the higher geared trucks would have better mileage.

Just traded my 01 Quad Sport for a 08 Quad Sport with 4.7L.. Truck is pretty loaded every option except 4X4.
On regular 87 oct.. getting 26.7 at 63MPH with cruise set.. I think the 16 sparkplug setup helps,, (except when its time for a tuneup!)...
Love the new truck,, Little bigger than the 01, and rides great on the open road..
