Default Lifter tick

I have a tick I think is a lifter in my 2005 Dakota 4.7 V8. I changed the oil and added a can of additive to help valves and lifters but its still ticking. Is this a hard Fix? Ive worked on plenty of engines but have never looked into the 4.7
and how the lifters and valves are set up. Any information will help. thanks

The 4.7 is an overhead cam engine with hydrolic lifters, so the only way a valve would tick is if a lifter has gone bad and is loosing pressure making it not lift all the way. I would check the exhaust manifold bolts, I have had them break off causing a noise like that, and other bolts around the engine that could come loose. If you have a mechanics stethoscope put it on the valve cover and see what you hear. You should hear some light ticking but nothing major.

Its mosty when its cold usually goes away after about 1 or 2 miles.
Its also getting louder and is on the right side of the motor. I dont mind digging into it But just want to know what im getting into before doing it.
Are the lifters seperate or in a group will i need new rods too?

Once again, its overhead cam so no push rods are used. Check the manifolds.

so it might not be a lifter but a bad manifold bolt? Ill look into that option. Not that i want to drill and tap but to rid of the tick ill do anything

My right side exhaust manifold had sheered 4 of the 8 bolts and was bouncing off the head when I finally found it.

Just curious? If its a manifold bolt why does it quiet down after it heats up? swelling of the metal?

That is another option, a couple guys on here had the same problem and it was a manifold bolts. You might get lucky and a stub maybe still sticking out. [sm=smiley20.gif]
