Default Moving to San Diego from NJ...

...and I need some opinions. I have the 4.7 in my truck with the tow package. We are debating on what would be the best option for our move. We have talked about using Pods and then just driving our vehicles, a moving company and then driving our vehicles or a U-Haul truck towing my wife's vehicle and her driving my truck.

The fourth option is one that I have been throwing around, but I am not sure about it. Would it be feasible/doable to tow a trailer? I know our trucks can pull quite a bit of weight. I am just not sure if it is doable to tow a 6'x12' Uhaul cargo trailer across the country. Here is the link to the trailer:

Let me know if I am crazy.

I would think you should be fine. I used on of those loaded to the brim and had no issues.

You'll be fine. I've pulled bigger trailers than that with mine, in the mountains, with no trouble (except some slowness going up some monster hills).

I wouldn't give it a worry!

I can get 21-22 doing 70mph. I know you need keep it a reasonable speed pulling, so that should help some but what kind of gas mileage did you get?

11-14 mpg. Again, though, that was going up to the Pocono Mountains. Hills the whole way. Once you hit the plains, you'll probably only have a subtle drop...maybe 16-18 mpg or better.

You'll be fine with that size. I regularly tow a 6x10 with no problems. Just be aware that with the flat nose of that trailer will induce a lot more drag the faster you go. My truck doesn't feel my trailer until about 60, then I definetely feel the flat nose of the trailer as far as wind resistance goes. But then again i only have the 3.7, soyou will be better. Good luck.

You should be fine with that trailer, it's max weight with load is well under our max towing anyway. Uhaul's surge brakes kinda suck though, at least I wasn't a fan of them but I towed a slightly smaller one than that 350 miles to college and nearly forgot it was there most of the time, truck didn't seem to even notice it was towing anything (also had two heavy wooden lofts in the bed along with some other crap).

Surge brakes suck in general. Our generator (8000 lb. trailer--I don't pull it with my Dak) has surge brakes and that is one rough ride. Jerks ya around terribly, even on the highway...the moment you leave off the gas it jerks and braking is exciting, to say the least. Don't recommend it on a full stomach.

U-Haul's surge brakes are tame, comparably...but those trailers are much lighter.

thanks all for the info. We may be going the PODS route after all. But I just wanted to get an opinion or few. I greatly appreciate it.
