Default Manual Transmission Gear Oil

Hi,
I plan on changing the gear oil in my manual transmission.
The parts store recommends 75-140 synthetic (Royal Purple) gear oil, which I purchased, but then I realized that the Service Manual recommends ATF+4.

Anybody else using gear oil instead of ATF (factory recommended) in their manual trannys?

Thanks for any replys.

Thanks Frenchy, (and ericemery), I thought something was strange when I drained the gearbox and a thin reddish fluid (like transmission fluid) came out.

I haven't refilled it yet. I'm going to see if there is an alternate or equivelent synthetic fluid that I can use.

it's best to get amsoil atf+4 fluid in there, there is already a synthetic fluid in there from the factory, but the mopar synthetic fluid is rather ****ty...

Ya, Amsoil has a synthetic ATF, I run it in my truck.
