Smile Shock options - current status?

Hi All,

Not to start anything.... but, trying to get a read on options (such as they are) on shocks for my 2WDQC. From what I can tell it looks like it boils down to Monroe and Rancho, is that correct? My 2006 Nightrunner is at stock height with 20's...

Anything else out there? Anyone have opinons/experience on these set ups?

Thanks!

BDG

Currently just those two, some of us are still holding out hope for Bilstein... there's a few threads in here from people who have installed the Monroe's and Rancho's, one was pretty recent, probably only a few pages back.

Don't hold your breath holding off for Bilstein for shocks for our Gen3s. My latest contact is no plans for our trucks, period. I just put Monroes on. Helped a lot. No noticeable float or bounce that I had with the oem garbage. I jumped the gun on the Monroes though, I preferred the Ranchos.

Day 10 with the Ranchos and I STILL can't say enough about the difference in the ride.
I've noticed that they might be a little stiff within the first few minutes of driving around, but once they "warm up" you forget that you ever had a suspension issue in the first place! it's like a new truck. I assume once the shocks break-in the "warm up" period will not be needed...

Still wondering if/how well these would work on the trx4 off-road model.

Default Thanks for the info!

I appreciate the input...

I would generally lean towards the Ranchos also, but my QC is 2WD.... may be a little overkill for the street. I'll cost compare and let everyone know what I find.

Do most guys go to Shockwarehouse.com? Anywhere else for shocks?

Thanks again...

I have also the Rancho shocks on the four corners, but I am still a little bit upset, and I would really appreciate if you can help me. I constantly hear this Rancho sounding too much, that some of my friends keep up telling me that they should be replaced.... Is that happening to you???

Where are you guys buying the Ranchos from?

I only have 32k miles....

But I can't hit even the smallest ripples in the road without it feeling like i hit a huge pot hole. I think its going to be time to get them soon.

I am most likely going to do the job myself, and it sounds like the rancho's give the best results.

Who has the best deal?

My Ranchos are quiet, so if if you hear noise coming from any one of them, I would imagine there's either a problem with the shock or possibly with the installation of the shock.
As for off-road capability, I believe Rancho was pretty much built with the idea of off-roading in mind. Any task that your truck can handle off-road I'm sure the shock could handle as well.
Shockwarehouse is where I bought mine - and other than a small shipping problem, they were great. And I don't these shocks are overkill for road use.
Again, except for the initial rigidity of the shock which clears up after a half mile or so, the ride is fantastci on the road. No more feeling pebbles in the road...
NOW - as for installing them yourself - per my mechanic they were an extreme PITA to install. Not the rears - just the fronts. Apparently the heads of the bolts that mount thru the top of the shock(which weren't long enough I assume due to my TM level kit) cannot be reached to tighten them when in place, so they needed to be welded in so they dont spin while tightening. Now I don't know if this was a problem was caused by my mechanic or if everyone will find this probem, so keep that in mind.
But overall they're in and they're grrrrrrrreat!
