Default Noticed something odd about stock spark plugs

So my gas mileage has been on a steady decline the last 3k miles and I decided to change plugs @ 32k. There were a couple things I noticed and not sure if this was mentioned in other plug posts. One, my plugs were fouled like crazy and gap varied from .035-.045(stock says .040 but none were near...most at .045). The other thing I noticed, as I finished drivers side and took out the first on pass side I checked its gap and saw something unusual. sorry pic may be huge

The electrode on pass side is tiny.

They're two diff plugs and diff part #'s. You can see on as some black rings on it too.

Anyways, I thought I'd post what I saw if no one else has done it. So far Autolite 3923 plugs have improved fuel economy and brought some life back into it. Never had any stumble issues so...nothing to fix there.

Has anyone looked into it to find out if the 3923's will also fit the new 08 4.7? They supposedly have different heads than the 05-07.

Thanks

stock plugs are usually like that. the reasoning is that one side fires different from the other. one side will fire from ground strap to electrode and the other side will fire from electrode to ground strap. it is a common thing on newer cars.

Yeah...doesn't sound right to me either. All the coils seem to be exactly alike as well so.... Nor can I see or understand the benefit to different plugs.

Could be an HO thing...?...to have diff plugs that is...

ok. so i was just reading the link to the diff in HO to standard post and it actually shows the small electrode pic and calls it platinum tipped plugs...

idk, mine seems just fine with the autolites copper. still doesn't explain having two diff plugs
