Default Owned less than a week and already problems

Well purchased my 05 Dak with 50k miles on it from Carmax.
I got a decent deal and loved the way the truck looked so picked it up.

Anyways, about 400miles later I get a check engine light and my truck while engaged in (D) drive is reving to ~2,000 rpm's. Really cool when it rains and you have to brake the truck keeps wanting to go makes for a fun ride. Took to the local autozone and got a TCM fault error code and RPM too high for opertaions code. Carmax was closed due to Xmas Eve.
Basically drove the truck as little as possible for the night and the next day it was fine. Check engine light remained for a short period but the shifting and rpm's were spot on.
Scheduled an appointment for the truck tuesday at 1pm and couldn't make it due to some personal issues that arose. Well today around 5pm the truck did the same thing. In neutral I'm around 2,500 or more and in drive its around 1,500-2,000. My biggest concern is when going into drive or reverse it obviously grinds the gears pretty durn bad. I've just starting doing research and notice that these tranny's go out pretty early in the life of the truck.

I'm a mechanic so it didn't really bother me but here's my question. I'm going to demand that it obviously gets fixed and that they drain the transmission and check for flakes of metal due to the excessive gear grinding (I'm talking pretty damn bad). What else can anyone think of? I want dodge to check the TCM which will probally be an automatic replacement I'm kinda hoping I can get a transmission out of it.

I called Carmax 10+ times today and got recording after recording by the time I limped it there they were closed. Tommorow we'll be making the trip there and dropping the truck off.

sounds to me like its either a vacuum leak or your iac motor is going...either way have it checked by a tech and with all the "grinding" in and out of gear I'd want to make sure they drop the pan.

Engine idle has nothing to do with the transmission. The grinding is a result of high engine idle. Check your vacuum lines and IAC wires. I would be at Carmax 15 min. before they open and voice your concern. If they do not fix the issue right then and there, then you should cheerfully beat them to a pulp.

Zeroaccess, our trucks had a TSB for the tranny. Had to replace a couple of filters and o ring if I'm not mistaken. Have them look that up and if they can't contact a Dodge dealership and have them check to see if your truck is one that needed and/or had this service done. I had a issue when I first got mine also, had the TSB done and no issues since.

Your a mechanic and you put the truck in gear at 2500 rpm's??? If the tranny wasn't bad before, I'd say it is now. Go to carmax when their is prospective buyers in the building and raise cain. That usely does the trick....

Agreed. Typically, the bigger the crowd....the better result.

I didn't have a choice except to shift it. Trust me I was almost in tears over having to move the vehicle but I had too.

I haven't been able to drive down there yet and called 20+ times. I really wanted to have it towed in so they understand. Its just pissing me off, will let everyone know whats going on. If it wasn't in warranty I would have already tore it down and fixed it but hell not on my dime.

Definately having them drop the pan and check it out. Reverse and first are probally hurt. Just ticked off that they won't return my phone calls gotta work the next 3 days and they won't give me a rental so gotta drag the damn thing to work. Monday it'll go there for a couple of days.

I want to fight with them to get a rental, anyone have any experience with this?

Edit: Located in Georgia , Powder Springs to be exact.

When I owned my Trailblazer, I took it in for warranty work and they wouldn't give me a loaner. I went next door to Dodge and talked to a saleman obout how they were treating me. He gave me a brand new Nitro for the day, even filled it up. I pulled up in front of chevies showroom with it and in front of a big crowd I informed them that Dodge loaned me a vehicle when the ones I bought the vehicle from wouldn't. After that I always got a loaner, BUT Dodge got my business.
