I'm driving down the highway with the cruise control on. The check engine light comes on and engine revs down. It would only do that if I got it above 70, not under that. Eventually check engine light goes off and it worked fine. About a week later the check engine light comes on and it starts sputtering if I get it above 2000rpm. Below that it ran fine, but when it got too 2000rpm it acted like you were pressing on the gas and letting off quickly. That stopped after about 15 minutes. It ran fine for about another week. Then last night driving down the highway the check engine light comes on and the engine dies. It restarted again with no problem, and ran fine. Check engine light has gone off. Any ideas what it could be? Sounds like a sensor to me.

 

I would say its something electronic. See if there are any codes.

i'ld head over to autozone or somewhere it wouldn't hurt....i'm not sure if dodges store codes....but most cars will store codes even if the cel isn't on

I know my wifes VW does, I don't think that our trucks do, but I could be wrong.

 

i think just about all makes/models will store the lastest codes that are thrown even if the light is off

 

I guess it doesn't hurt to try. If it's not there no loss. If it is I'll know. My thoughts were that it's like an O2 sensor or emissions crap.

 

I don't think your O2 would cause that. But I'm unsure.

 

nah...o2 sensor would not do that my bet is a sensor....something is getting thrown off and making the engine go into 'limp mode'
