Depends on engine, trans and axle. Trucks with the towing package have an extra leaf spring too. My V6 manual with 3.21's is only rated to a bit over 3,000. It could probably pull more, but without a brake controller stopping would be dangerous.

V8's with 3.92's, brakes and tow packages are 7,000+ I believe.

Goodthing you caught that, my truck is a V8. I have an aftermarket hitch and brake control. On a side note, I used to have a 1993 Nissan Pickup 4 cyl 2WD. I towed a camper to FL from NC and back. I noticed when I drove above 55 mph it would sway a lot. I think the camper with everything in it weighed around 3k pounds, you are right; towing within the limits without the proper equipment is dangerous.

I have an 06 Dak with the 3.7L, manual transmission, and 3.55 gears. I installed the factory hitch and wiring harness and towed my race car for 70 miles with no issues. Combined trailer weight + race car was at 5400lbs. Granted, I do not have a brake controller, so I make sure that in the event of an emergency stop, I have more than enough room. I have also towed a 6100lb combined weight of trailer and car for 60 miles. This was a little tougher...but I stayed in 5th gear most of the time.

Haha nice! The 3.7L will always get the job done, but it might take some time. I've done the math, and IMO, even 4.10's in a V6 manual would make highway driving acceptable, up to about 65.

If I had money to burn, I'd sink it into gears, rear airbags and a full 7 pin brake controlled towing harness. Then all I'd have to do is find something to pull ;D

4.10's would make a 6 speed a blast on the street too.

Definately, and I did NOT have the power wire installed when I towed the 6100lb car and trailer.

Honestly, when I towed my race car, I was doing 70mph on the highway just fine. I had no bucking issues (no weight distribution bars) or worryful braking. But then again, thats when I had the 245/70/16s on...so I had a little better final gear ratio to the tires than I do now.

If I could get a set of 3.92s, I would be happy. The only problem is, I have to buy two sets...f$%#...
