Default "GASCAP" error.

I'm getting it again, only this time I get no check engine light like I was last time. I know that the "gascap" isn't loose, it's tightly on there. Is there something wrong with the seal? I was going to take into the dealer, but am hoping its something simple like all I need is a new gascap.

The gasket?
Couldn't I just replace the gascap?
Whichever is easiest...

Thanks.

It's just an oring. You can replace it if you want, or just replace the gasket which is cheaper. If you want to replace the gasket get either butyl or nitrile so they withstand the gas fumes.

Just make sure the material is compatable with petroleum products (butyl, nitrile)

Thanks! Yea, I'll go get a gascap probably, seems easiest! If the gascap message keeps popping up, then what could the problem be?

start there its the cheapest. The oring is a good start. I know that sometimes there can be a crack in a breather hose to the charcoal canister that can cause this too. Ask me how I know. Sometimes its the system not just the cap that is the culprit. A smoke test is best.
