Okay so as most of you know I haven't been on in quite some time, and I'm not sure if anything has changed...

There are a few specifics I was wondering if anyone had any answers to...

1) Are there any drum to disc conversions available for our Daks?

2) Are there any performance brakes for our Daks...rotors or calipers or a kit?

3) Has anyone found a way to stop our trucks (05-07) from handling like a boat... I.E. Jello suspension??

4) This one is almost specifically targeted to Frenchy, cuz he's the only one I know who's lowered his truck... Do the lowering shackles significantly affect bed capacity or handling... like what kind of affect does it have.. also Frenchy you've only lowered the rear right??

2) Not sure.
3) Buy better shocks.
4) Yes, it kind of does limit load capacity, because I put 800 pounds of yard stone in my bed, and I had like, one inch of wheel gap... it looked cool, but wasn't good.

 

What is normal weight capacity anyone know...

what shocks would you recommend and what kinda price are you talking about...

I haven't done new shocks...

But I hear people saying it solves the problem.

 

yeah I'd like to eventually auto cross with the truck, but braking and suspension have been the only reason's I haven't already...

 

And they won't let you...

I tried, the center of gravity is too high, they said to me, it'd need like a 4/6 drop to be able to be in the autoX

 

hmm I've seen 2nd gen daks not lowered doing it... I can't imagine that our trucks are that much higher..

 

Were they R/T or 2wd models?

If so, the 2nd gen dakota R/T and 2wd models were a LOT lower to the ground...

My buddy has a 2nd and 3rd gen Dakota, both 2wd, and his 3rd gen is about 4 inches higher than his 2nd gen was.

 

GVWR is 6000 I believe

A CC 2WD Dak with a full tank of gas is about 4400 LB

Add you and your passenger and you're at 4800 LB

So it's about 1200 # in the bed. "Old Skool" half ton rating.

I've had my truck down to within about 1" of the bump stops, and that was probably slightly overloaded. Took care of business, but I wouldn't drive highway speeds like that.

 

No brake kit as of now....but go to r1concepts they have cross drilled and slotted rotors and ssbc has brake pads
