As others have stated, putting the hitch on yourself is very simple...just some basic tools. Even the wriing harness was not that difficult (aside from splicing and soldering at one point).

As far as the extra stuff Blu_Dak mentioned, unless you are hauling heavy stuff 24/7 IMHO most of it is unecessary...I have a 6x10 and see easily out of the stock non tow package mirrors. The tow/haul button is standard on the Dak IIRC. The only thing that may be nice would be the extra leaf and the tranny cooler, but both of those can be obtained aftermarket. The tranny cooler you can install yourself...don't know about he extra leaf though...

Are you guys sure the tow package has an extra leaf in the rear? I have not seen that published anywhere.

Can anyone tell me how many leafs are on a non tow package?
My tow has 5 leafs, 4 in the pack and 1-flat

Thanks,
LB

I will be using it to haul a boat about 25-30 miles to the river on the weekends and a few other times this summer. Probably about 25-30 trips per summer. Boat is a 17 foot ski boat that weighs about 2100lbs including the trailer.

I wouldn't sweat that kind of weight. I pulled a 6000lb package for about 60 miles with my V-6 that didn't come with the "tow package".

There's alot to concider when towing with your dak it may or may not be able to handle extended use due to heavy loads.

The Dakota's tow pkg varies and the newer modles are better, the 05's tow pkg includes
Tow mirrors
Larger altinator
Bigger battery
additional engine cooler
Tranny cooler
addtitional leaf spring
Tow/haul button designed to help with shifting points on the tranny
classIV hitch
four pin & seven pin wire harness with plug n play electric brake port

That's all that I can think of but Im sure there's more.
Seriously, Blu Dak, use spell check. It's pretty annoying. What kind of tow mirrors are you talking about? If you are talking about the power mirrors, those are not tow mirrors. If they are true tow mirrors, could you post some pics?

Officer Blacksport, Grammar Police.

For the occasional 2100# pull, get the hitch and a 4 wire harness. Use tow-haul and brake early.

Remote controlled mirrors or "power mirrors" were available in both style option mirrors,I believe the two styles were Sport & Tow.
