Driving Lights Installation
Noting a previous post...A fellow posted pictures showing the driving lights he had installed. I believe he stated that he had found the, "hot" white wire and tapped into it for power. So when he turned on his fog lights the new driving lights also came on. I finally got the bucks to order a SS Bullbar and plan to put some lights on it. Probably Hellas. My question is...Is it safe to tap into the white "hot" wire or just follow the directions that will come with the lights? I realize that tapping into the white wire will make it easier because I won't have to mount a switch in the cab. Not knowing much about electricity I guess I was thinking maybe the existing white wire would get to hot . I dunno know. Help.

If you want it to come on with the factory fogs this is the way to go. Don't wire the new lights directly off the factory harness it's not designed to be supplying that much power. The relay basically acts like a switch, you feed it power from the battery (fused) and hook it up to the lights you're installing and the wire for the factory fogs. When it gets power from the factory wire it "turns on the switch" and supplies power to your new lights from the battery.

I would suggest installing the switch that comes with the kit.... or at least put a switch in-line before the relay that is connected to the factory white wire. This gives you the option to turn them off if needed. Otherwise the fuzz may get on your case if you're ever pulled over for them.

I beleive he was talking about the white wire as being the acc wire simply telling the relay (when the swich is on) to sent power to the lights from the batt, I don't think he was powering his driving lights off the fogs, just using them to tell his driving light to turn on.
