Default Dealerships...SO LAME Tranny pan leaking

I called my local dealership today hoping they would help me with my tranny pan leak. They told me they would look at it but if anything was wrong they would have to perform a service...which would cost me 250 bucks?! wtf is that? what happend to my warranty? I only have 26K on my truck. They claim that the transmission is a "maintenance item", and thats why they have to charge... its also part of the DRIVETRAIN warranty that we all got if you bought your truck new... Anybody else had a situation like mine? If the gasket it bad, thats something i could do myself...thanks for reading guys.

Call a different dealership. A leaking gasket is not a maintenance item.

good piont and good idea....I would be calling a different dealer...but the other one closed...and it was a half hour away. The actual dealer where i bought my truck was closing at the time back in 06 due to a make over in the auto mall here we have in monterey...ive been having to go through a chrystler/volvo dealer. i think im just gonna have to do it myself.

a buddy of mine that used to work at a toyota dealer told me that the dealer ive been going through is just jerking me around...And service writers make a commision off of cash deals. So of course they want to sell me a service... if I want something done I gotta throw more weight around...to get my warranty.

Good Luck, I had the same problem had to take it back 4 Times till they got it to seal right. I found the leak when I went over my truck before the factory warranty ran out. The first time i got it back it leaked worse than when i took it to them lost 2 quarts in the driveway over night. 3rd time only had a small puddle under the truck. That was when they finally realizied the pan itself was warped and got a whole new pan. I absolutley HATE dealerships they are way over priced and I think the quality of techs they hire atleast around me seem to be idiots! Find a good local mechanic you trust or fix it yourself if you can. Believe me I caught a dealership service manager in a lie and got them fired! Lets just say they thought they could take advantage of my then girlfriend, now my wife.

yea i would forget taking it to ANY dealer for something as simple as squirtin some new rtv around. that way if you do it yourself you know its right and if it leaks you cant get mad cause youre the one that did it

I took my vehicle in to have the transmission fluid changed. During that visit they found a leaky transmission line- they replaced that. When I got it back, it started to leak shortly afterward, I brought it back in and they fixed it free of charge- of course it was their fault that it was leaking, the gasket fell apart apparently. Anything they do, they guarantee it for 1 year. I have a water leak in my truck, I'm thinking of taking it to them but I know they will charge me at least 500 bucks to find this freaking leak, but at least they will guarantee their work. I might just put a huge clear plastic bag around my truck, that will stop the water.
Doesn't the manual call for transmission fluid change @30k miles? Might as well just have them replace the fluid.
