Do not seperate from the truck, you will regret it. After my 08 Deployment I had mine paid off so I decided to trade it on an 08. I got as far as the Dodge Mechanics getting in and puttting on their seatbelts to test drive it. I walked over and told them no deal and took my truck home. Best decision I ever made.

The impression I get is he would keep the truck and have the cj as a second vehicle. If that's the case I say go for the cj, I'm all for pushing these trucks but if you're doing really serious off-roading you will be hard pressed to find anything that can take on a jeep.

Turn the CJ into a budget beater that can really romp off road. You could sink that $1200 into gears alone for the Dakota, and you'll still have a weak front end, low-articulation CV axles, and a long wheelbase.

My bad, nothing wrong with having a jeep out back just for the off road.

I would get the CJ and use that offraod, and then use your truck as your daily driver.

Why?

The CJ is solid front and rear, has a great wheelbase for wheeling, and will outshine your dakota offroad, no matter how much money you dump into the dakota.

The dakota is great for work, moving stuff, 4x4 onroad and in sticky situations, but if your looking for an offroad rig, I would rather invest my money into the CJ, and leave the dakota how it is and drive it daily.

Haha true...an asphalt buckling daily driver

Can't beat old skool leafs and solid axles. Your options and bang-for-the-buck potential are infinitely larger with the CJ. Keep the Dak clean and well maintained...and punish the CJ on at least a weekly basis

think you made your decision and I would agree with it. If and when I have the chance, that is the route I want to go also.
