Default V6: should I worry?

I am looking at an 06 Quad 4X4 with a V6. My last Dakota was an R/T. I asked someone who had driven a V6 and he said it is not "bad". I like the rest of the truck so the 6 is my only concern. I don't do towing. One more thing, how does it sound with aftermarket pipes?

Nothing wrong with the V6s that I know about. The only thing you have to be careful about with a modified exhaust is it shounding like ricer. Kota07 on the SOVA site is working a twin turbo for his V6 Dakota now.

I have a V6, no problems here, and I tow around my trailer and Quad all the time, around 1300lbs, RPMs tend to be higher then the V8's when pulling but she still get me there. only thing I wish I had the v8 for is better power and accelaration on the bigger hills.

Better take it for a test drive if you're not sure. If it's a manual transmission, performance isn't too bad. Not great, not neck snapping, but sufficient. Torque curve is nothing like the 5.9 Mag. But it's reliable and gets the job done.

The V6 is basically the V8 minus 2 cylinders. It's a good design. I don't think anyone has any trouble with them.

I pulled a packed UHaul with a stuffed bed and cab from SC to NY in one day, probably averaged 75 MPH, and about 12 MPG

Seriously, get the stick shift. It can handle highway speeds in 4 gears, and keeps the engine from feeling like a dog.

Also sounds decent with aftermarket exhaust. My Blowmaster is pretty loud, but a 50 or 70 series rather than a 40 would be a better choice. Alot of guys like Cherry Bombs too.

i drove an 06 Dakota when i was looking at trucks it was the Magnum V8 (not HO). It went alright, but nothing great really. I can't imagine the little v6 would be very exciting. I think the mileage is the same between the two or very close. Might as well get a V8.
