I need to replace the front pads on my 2005 Dakota 2wd. Any gotcha's or tips that I should be aware of? thanks

 

Nows your chance to upgrade the rotors, calipers and pads if ya want to

 

The rotors look good... no scoring or warping. I am going to put ceramic pads on.

 

mine looked good too, about 2k miles after i put ceramic pads on, the rotor started warping

 

At 65k miles it was time for new front brakes. I thought I would upgrade to ceramics to mainly prevent some of the brake dust that accumulates on the rims. After maybe 5k miles I started feeling the brake pulsating. At 75k I am buying new rotors and pads and replacing them tomorrow. Non-ceramic for sure!

 

Ceramics are fine if you have new rotors meant to work with them. Otherwise ceramics pads will literally eat stock rotors and warp them nearly immediately.

 

You needed dimpled rotors

 

i purchased an upgrade kit from napa.complete rotors with matching pads. great combo

 

1.) Always replace rotors if you have more then 35-40k on the rotor if you are replacing the brakes
2.) If you upgrade to ceramic pads, you need new rotors. Stock rotors will warp.
3.) Dodge/Chrysler has used junk rotors for many years (cant speak about the newer vehicles) but its pretty common. Upgrade to something aftermarket.
4.) Don't buy el cheap rotors from Autozone.
5.) Don't buy rotors from the dealership.
6.) Your front brakes account for most of your stopping power, dont cheapskate it..
