I like looking at my MPG's to monitor how efficient I can make my driving style but I mainly focus on how far I can make that tank last...when I'm concerned that is...and that's been awhile. I think I was getting 370ish miles a tank when trying to extend it.

My highest in my '97 5.2 was 19mpg. I'm sure the 4.7 can beat it by 1 or 2 mpg from what I'm seeing so far.

MPG is the one thing I don't like about my new truck and was quite a shock. I have a 2009 4x4 automatic, 4.7L V8 and am averaging a tad above 12 mpg in town. I complained to the dealer and they updated the chip software but that didn't seem to make any difference. Any suggestions ? Upgraded exhaust, cold air intake, synthetic oil ? I would like to squeek out a few more mpg. Thanks

Randy

All three of those will make a little bit of a difference. A superchips could help as well

A light foot makes more difference than all the software upgrades.

Not to get your hopes up but my combo driving (some city and some hwy) I barely get 17 mpg and am light on the pedel. When I tow or get on it a lot then I can drop to like 13 mpg and even less. Not sure what would be a first step into getting better mpg. Intake? Synthetic fluids? Chip? Or lightfoot it?

As one once said, it is what it is. I'll be curious to know what other V8s with similar specs get. I don't think there are too many secrets in building engines these days.

Cool

California Emissions I might add, I suppose that hurts MPG as well. Love the truck otherwise.
