Default My mileage figures-08 4.7L

I have gone through two tanks in my for-me-new 08 Dakota with the 4.7L motor. In town 14mpg, highway 19.5mpg (doing 70-75). How am I doing? BTW, this is just slightly better than the 5.9 in my old 02 R/T.

I'm back at 21 highway but I'm a 2wd. As long as I'm not boosting I get pretty good gas mileage. When I'm boosing the gas gauge is dropping, lol.

Its hard to say as everyone gets different mpgs on what i would think is the same setup but Ive been watching the 08+ v8s and anything 20+ is good on the highway. One question, is that hand calcd or overhead?

I always found the over-head is about within one mpg of a hand tally. I lost 3 mpg with my new AT tires. This is bad very bad. I can't average over 14.6 for a month now. Love the new tires but should had gone with the Michelins LT4. If it wasn't for FL sugar sand I could have stayed away from a full AT tire.

I'm constantly getting 19 avg on the overhead. I'll check at my next fillup and hand calc.

Mine was hand calculated. I don't see an instant mpg on the overhead and the average is over the life of the truck, correct?

If you have the overhead console, set it to MPG/US then hit reset when you fill up your tank and is should give you an average for that tank or until you reset it again. I normally just look at the Overhead to get a feel of how each tank does but I do keep a written record of my Miles to Gallons (actually been doing this since I bought it at 4 miles on the odo). The overhead isnt on all Dakotas but was a standard option on a lot of the packages. To get an instant reading just hit the reset button while driving and give it a few minutes to recalc the mpgs.

14/19 sounds pretty much par. That is what I am getting.

Looks like Dodges are stuck at 14/19 no matter what. 3.6 V6, 4.8 V8, Hemi, 5.9 R/T in whatever configuration all get about the same.

My dad's 5.9l 3rd gen ram gets 11-12mpg all the time, just be glad ours is better than that.
