I think 8.5:1 would be too low. My -22cc dished Wiseco's in the talon are 8.8:1, this is combined with a .042" headgasket thickness, though. Honestly, stock compression should be just fine for 6 psi. Although, keep the timing conservative. Just remember, every degree of timing you advance, the higher the cylinder pressure and chance of pre-detonation. Swapping to E85 would help you all around: emissions, octane, cold'er intake charge, etc. Although, I think I remember the E85 debate thread a couple of years back...haha.

yea stay away from that junk. clogs everything up (e85). i would keep your block stock (to start with) and get your turbo all setup and tuned for around 6 psi. see how you like it and how funds are rolling. your gunna need injectors and all sorts of stuff for higher boost.

to get started and take care of most of your setup, dont worry about internals until you start boosting higher. get all your hardpiping and electrical taken care of. not sure of our trucks with the new electronics but look into a holley rising rate or similar.

That wasn't what the debate was about. The only reason a gasolene fueled vehicle gets a clogged fuel system after running E85 is from a dirty fuel system to start with. Colorado drivers love ethanol....and so do tuners with turbocharged cars. I have ran it on my car, and I know a good sized handful of other DSM owners (above 700whp uncorrected) that run straight, pump E85. Care to explain how ethanol clogs everything up?

I read somewhere e85 is about 110 octane...

which I could see why boosted drivers would love it...

It's octane rating is 100-105, and the E85 means it's an 85% ethanol blend (for those who didn't know). So you're gonna get worse gas mileage, by far.

Yaaaaaa...

Idk if it's like this EVERYWHERE, but up here, Premium fuel, is 93 or 94 octane, and is 100% gasoline, no ethanol at all...

maybe its different for aftermarket applications. i dont know. all i know is we tried running that crap at the county (im a mechanic there) and had fuel system problems on everything from a civic pool car to a 2500 pickup.

maybe i should try some of it in my TT 300zx and see what happens

True Ethanol is Denatured Alcohol that is awesome for cooling boost and raising octane. The trick is to spray it into the air charge, not through the gas tank. Denatured alcohol = 129 octane.
