So what do they do when they rustproof the underside of a vehicle?

It could be. make sure that both links are not broken. Grab them and shake and see if they move.

I have 05 v8...It should be the same....mine sway bar link snapped under 15k..had it replace...around 40k the ball joint under the sway bar boot went bad...looked for after market but they only sold 41/2" links...Mine was a 5"...Got mine from dodge $90 a piece, but much beefier than original.Alittle pricey but had no choice...wanted it done...I did mine in driveway, didnt even jack it up.took one side off completely...loosened other side so i had some play to work with....Top nuts will probably snap off(use a small cheater bar for better leverage)Replaced one side(leave loose)replaced other side and tightend up both..i heard the bottom nuts should be torqed to 70 lbs,but im not 100% on that...i have limited skills and tools and it was a breeze....i used vise grips on shaft to prevent it from spinning...hoped this helped

Thanks for the posts! I've developed the same noise on both sides, even the links don't appear to be broken...Hope it's not the ball joints@ 60k...

Anyone have an underside pic to point out the weak link ?

I have a definite rattling noise on bumpy roads. Especially when several small bumps or holes close together.

I don't have a pic, but if you know what a sway bar looks like then you can see where they attach to the lower control arms. If not, look under the front of the vehicle and you will see a bar that is the frontmost part of your vehicle underneath the engine. It is round. It attaches on both sides via a link. Grab that link on both sides and shake it to see if it makes noise.

It can look fine, yet still be bad. Her is how to tell
1) Open the door and have a buddy use its leverage to rock the truck back and forth fairly vigorously (don't damage the door by being stupid).
2) Get underneath the truck and closely inspect that link for noise as it is rocking
3) If you hear noise, replace it...in fact, replace both while you are at it.

Can't agree more with that quote. Chances are they will snap when you try to remove them.
