I have an 05 Dakota with the same problem, belt lite and chime thingy. I did try to get remove the drivers side seat then found out the center section and passenger side is all bolted together. Factor in it was -20 out I decided to leave it alone till weather warmed up. ( Glasses fogged up too )

After about 10 minutes the chime stops but the little red man still beams at me. I did find the fuse to eliminate the chime but it removes all functions from the dash. Speedo, eng temp, tach, all the necessary functions I need.

I am going to print off this temporary fix see how it goes then wait for a warm day to a permanent fix.

Thanks Lightning Bolt.

I tried the fix unfortunately it didn't work. The seat belt indicator doesn't go out at all for the start of the fix. Still tried it with no success. Tomorrow is warmer out so will pull the seat apart see if I can find out the problem.

I did try the fix but it didn't work for me as the light did not go out to start the fix.

So I had to pull the seat out both driver and passenger as the center counsel was attached to both sides. Once got the passenger side seat out it was easy to pull apart the wiring in the seat buckle and under the seat itself. I found the small saulder connection in the seat buckle to be the culprit so I cut the wire completely and sauldered it together. Now with no way for it to crimp there is no more dingy going off in the cab and no more little man glowing at me. Thank goodness it was driving me nuts.

Try your seat buckle it is probably the culprit. If you can get to the guts of it without removing the seats you will be lucky.

No no, my works properly. I meant if I dont put my seat belt on it'll ding for about 2 minutes and then it gives up. If I put it on it quits. All normal
