Default Seat Belt Light and Chime

My seat belt light will not go off even though the seat belt is fastened and the chime goes on and off. It seems like every time I stop the chime stops and then when I get going it starts again. I tried the fix (in the owners manual) to turn off the seat belt chime but it doesn't work because the light never turns off. Any suggestions before I start ripping wires out?

double check under your seat to see if the connector is plugged in?

Or check the latch itself. Open up the latch and make sure the wires are connected. Mine was doing the same thing and I found that the solder joint came loose in the latch.

The light and the chime worked normally for about two weeks and now it is doing the same thing again. I get in and put my seat belt on but the light does not go off and the chime just keeps going. Every once in a while the chime will stop for a few minutes than it starts back up again. I looked at the connections under the seat and everything looks fine. I may have to bring it to the dealer.

I would guess its the same as the earlier models so...MERRY X-MAS!

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be enabled
or disabled by your authorized dealer or by
following these steps:

NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first
60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON
or START position. DaimlerChrysler does not recommend
deactivating the Enhanced Warning System
(BeltAlert).

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and buckle the driver’s seat belt.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.

3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver’s seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.

4. Turn off the engine. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated
by repeating this procedure.

NOTE: Although the Enhanced Warning System
(BeltAlert) has been deactivated, the Seat Belt Warning
Light will continue to illuminate while the driver’s seat
belt remains unbuckled.
