Well, the airflow hole before the filter is now a lot larger but the pipe after the filter is still the same size so I don't see what you achieved other than to hack up your truck?

i did the same also. the other thing i did was, open up the hood and look straight at the cone filter, there is a piece of rubber near the radiator that i removerd. giving the truck more air also

question, in doing this, (the hole and removing the rubber by the radiator) have you noticed more dirt/water in your engine bay? I would be afraid (especially in the northern states with snow/salt/rain) of getting crap in the engine that I really don't want there.

Quote: it allows more cold(er) air into the intakes heat shielded area. Thus allowing a colder denser charge from the intake.

I did the same thing a while back.
Yes, Eric is right. The amount of air that you could draw through that little hole, you would basically have to have a system like stock that actually sucks from in the fender well. With this, more "fresh" air will come from the fender compartment to the air filter. The actual diameter of the K&N is larger than the stock hole anyways.

With the B.L. you basically accomplish this. It opens up the area around and now above the rad.

I think the amound of crap you would get in there would be minimal compared to what would be sprayed in from just driving down the road. Mist from off of the tires coming up underneath the bottom of the engine bay.
As far as the hole, it is very protected inside the fender.
