Snow plows for the Dakota
#31
I've been looking into the Suburbanite plow. Its specifically designed for the Dakota and is only 250lbs. Its easy to remove and install and if you are just doing the me and my drive way plowing, ie., not commercial, it should not be that detrimental to the vehicle.
I've found them priced at $3400 to $3900 installed from the quotes I have.
Its made by Western: http://www.suburbaniteplows.com
and the brackets that hold it on are barely noticeable from what I can see.

2001 QuadCab 4.7L V8 - Plowing
I have a Hiniker plow on my Dakota for 3 years now and they make a quick connect mount for it that requires no modifications. Have used it for 3 years on my driveway and 1 parking lot.
They tell you to plow in 4WD low and with the Transmission in low as well.
I take my time and try not to ram thru things as they say with my plow angled when I can.
Taking it easy and making sure completely stopped before shifting helps protect tranny.
Let the plow do the work and take it off in between storms. i have a cart in garage and take mine off when I am done to store it inside.
Hope that helps.

guess this means i have to take my front bumper off now HA! ya right...
not sure i really understand any of the negitive replies... a plow, bumper or anything you hang off the front will affect the operation of the airbags some but this is known, and affects all vehicals, (i have also been in just about every kind of vehical and never have i seen selectable driver air bags, and i do believe it is a crush, thats sets them off) as far as the weight, just another known fact, more weight = faster wear on moving parts, how much difference is there on the front end if you have a driver and a plow, or 4-5 full grown people in the cab which they are made for, if i needed a plow i wouldn't twice about puting it on my dak, if you put something like that on the front of your vehical, chances are you know the possible side affects it may have and are willing to deal them, at least thats how i see it anyway

The warnings are definitely CYA's first and foremost, but I think there is some real legitimacy to the effect a plow will have on airbag deployment. I always thought our airbags were deployed by accelerometers, not necessarily deformation of the frame or body.
And a plow isn't like 4 people in the cab, it's like two people standing on a 2 foot diving board bolted to the front of the truck. Its dead weight might be OK, but the leverage is the killer. I've seen 3G Dakota's with plows and it was too low for my taste.
And it's true, if you realize that you're going to be putting your truck through severe duty, take extra good care of it, and prepare for the worst...which I would say includes a new steering rack and balljoints. Also, I would 110% invest in the Rancho shocks for the front before asking the suspension to control any more front end weight.
