Guys... he has wires connected because every dakota had them ran while the truck was being assembled. They are part of the interior wire harness. If he doesn't have the switch, he doesn't have rear defrost.
The person who changed the back glass, plugged those wires in because he assumed they needed to be. Like when they change a windscreen and reconnect remote start sensors.
This is just a case of a glass shop not knowing it had a slider and put in the wrong glass.

So three possibilities: Sliding rear, Solid rear, Solid rear w/defroster.You sure you have the tow package, and not just a hitch added? The 6"x9" are also fold away, not fixed. I can't find anything that says they were a separate option - only available with the tow package.

If your truck came with tow package it includes heated mirrors. If the extra option of rear defroster was ordered, you also get heated mirrors on the same switch, tow pkg or not.
I suspect someone replaced the broken window with the defroster model (maybe a junkyard bargain or a misorder?) and it isn't connected.

I have the tow package and Rear defrost, but NOT heated mirrors. (and yes I HAVE the tow package, Brake Controller harness and all)
Mine are NON-Folding mirrors.
It sounds like the rear glass got smashed and replaced with glass without the defrost option, or it never had that option.
Replacing the glass with one with the Defroster would work, But you might need it starscanned by dodge to turn it on if it wasnt already turned on.
