it happens to the best of us. i work alongside a ex-dodge tech that said daks came in left and right with broke mani studs. he had a bunch laying around that i used on mine. i did my drivers side (mani removal, surface clean, and new gasket and hardware in about an hour.) in my garage where i do all my work. if its the rearmost bolt it has a stud on the outside also for the shield (which i left off) so you cant use a regular bolt

thats the one in question. I know its a stud but i figure a bolt will work just fine and leave the heat shield suspended by the 3 working studs as it has been for some time.

i may just end up pulling the whole thing and then running to the HW store w/ bolt #2 shown in the service manual to find a replacement but i was hoping to get it done in one sitting.

here to answer my own question for future reference.

the exhaust manifold bolts are 8x1.25x45mm. 5mm of that is the taper at the end. I used a 40mm just fine.
