Hello all. I have an '06 Dakota 4X4 club cab SLT and have two problems that I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced:

1) During the first 15-20 minutes of vehicle driving/warm-up, a non-metallic clicking or electrical sparking sound can be heard under and forward of the steering column area. The sound directly corresponds to the slow up/down movement of the gas pedal. The sound is non-existant when the vehicle is shut down/powered off and slowly moving the gas pedal up/down.

2) Late this summer, on 4 occassions the engine bagan sputtering and RPM erratically dipped below 500 RPM while sitting still at a red light. When tapping or pushing the gas pedal, it immediately cleared up.

Also, on two occasionss, while driving at very slow speeds in parking lots, the engine abruptly stopped, within a split-second, no sputtering or erradic RPM. I braked to a complete stop, shifted the automatic Trans to park, and restarted engine. No service/check engine lights remained illuminated on the dash either.

Has anyone had any of these issues?? These issues have cropped up just over the past few months. Thanks.

for number 2, I would suspect bad gas? change where you get your gas, or if it is all over, try to use one trusted station for a few tanks and see if that fixes your issue. The clicking I have no idea.

That's what I thought it might have been the first time it happened, but the 3 other times it happened I was using gas from a different station and the time span was over a couple months.

welcome, hopefully we can help you figure these out.
Sounds like a relay, but I'm not really sure. It definitely sounds non-metallic, more of a "sparking" sound than a "clicking" sound but I could be wrong. Strangest thing is it directly corresponds to slow gas pedal up/down movement, which will change the frequency, or how rapid, the sound is. It's definitely noticeable with windows up, radio off and it will slowly fade away during vehicle warm-up and driving. It has occurred over a wide temperature range too from the end of this summer until now.

ok, as for the clicking noise, your exhaust manifold is cracked, what happens is the manifold is cold, exsposing the crack, when they heat up and expand, it will close the crack, the other thing is the throttle positioning sensor is on its way out, that is when the idle goes erract,
