Can you contribute black ice as a problem with tires?
You know I always hear complaints about the factory tires being trash, but I can say I haven't had an issue with them on ice, snow or rain... Hell we just got around 12 inches of snow here and the truck performed above expectations I felt. I guess its the luck of the draw?

Thanks Eric for reposting the pix. Thanks all for the good wishes.
I contribute operator error as well as the SRA tires. I had just come out of the woods where I was all day. When I went in before sunrise it was a clear and high 30's. About 10 AM it got colder and a slight snow fell off and on, about an inch overall. Great hunting weather. It was about 45 miutes past dark when I went to go home so I should have realized it could be icing up. I drove out of the farm field and by habit turned off the 4 wheel drive. Made it about a half mile up the hill and the *** end came around on me on the top. As I said earlier I recovered and got her going straight but it happened the oak tree got in my way. I believe if the tree wasn't right at the shoulder I would have recovered the rest of the way and just got a good pucker moment out of it.
I think these tires may be fine in deeper snow or slush and mud. I had an incident this past summer. I was at a shopping center and at a 3 way stop. I went to turn left and as soon as my tires hit the decorative concrete crosswalk my truck was sidways. This was just wet surface and I don't think I could have been on the pedal that much considering I was coming from a complete stop and turning. Should have realized then but figured I'd wait until new tires where needed.

Naw, they are long gone. The insurance company paid me back what I paid for the visors, tonnue and liner.
The insurance adjuster said $8900 at first but once they peeled the hood back the engine was pushed, the front crossmember was pushed back also. The drivers side of the frame was pushed out about 75 degress.. They said the whole frame would need replaced. Most probably the engine and tranny also. I did see the transfer case had sprung a leak. He quit adding at $15,500. So what you have left is a nice bed, a cab with all the trimmings, and rear axle. I was really hoping it would be totaled. My buddy at the body shop is good but I'd pay twice in the long run. Now and when I sold or traded it. Hate to lose a great truck but it was better off this way.
I pulled the emblem off the front right after taking the pix on the next day, sort of a memento. Its completely fine, no cracks , not a scratch.
Figure I'll put it and a picture on a plaque for the garage.
Holy crap, that took quite a hit!
Either you got different tires (maybe they actually didn't make the 17" ones as crappy a possible) or you're the luckiest person around. I have never experienced a tire that came close to being as bad as the SRA's that came on my truck and the Trooper I used to have had bald Michelins on it! The SRA's were so bad I don't care to ever have a Goodyear tire on my vehicle again, whether the tire in question is decent or not I have little confidence in a company that would put out such utter crap.
