Trashed 2008 Dakota sport
I actually had a very similiar thing happen with my first 05 Dak where I hit a patch of black ice on going into an elbow turn at around 40mph... back end slipped out from underneath me and next thing I knew I was fishtailing between both lanes with it eventually pulling me into a large oak tree... At the moment of impact I was knocked out cold only to wake up just as the truck was coming to a rolling stop about 50 yards from the crash site on the other side of the road from where I hit the tree. Between the air bag deployment and the seat belt I cracked a few ribs and I'm guessing what really knocked me out was my head hitting the seat belt adjuster because I had to have stiches to my left eye. It was totalled by the insurance company and I walked away with $1k in my pocket. I should have taken pictures with the hood lifted up because the battery was completely gone along with the computer or whatever it is that holds those chips because the whole computer looking box area on the right was all mangled.

Morangus, looks like you hit it a bit more towards the drivers side. Very similar even down to the Oak tree.I just didn't keep going like you did. Yikes, that would have added a whole bunch of "what if's" to the wreck.
I think I had a couple broken ribs too , my pain was mostly in the sternum. Figured they can't do much for that so i just rode it out. Hurt like a SOB to cough and when I sneezed it felt like a mule kick to the sternum.
Lesson learned here for you guys running them Daks. Get some weight in the rear in the winter, I think it's a matter of the back end is too light. My wife is running SR-A's on here Explorer and has no problem but its alot heavier over the back axle plus she got the auto 4X4 that kicks in if she slides.
Thanks for sharing, at least we know theres a good chance of walking away from a head on with these trucks.
