Default Ugh

So I finally broke down and ordered a Superchips 3865 but when I went to program my truck it said calibration for my vehicle isn't supported. Of COURSE they were closed when I called tech, so I posted on the forum but no response yet. It said the issue has been sent to the engineers for analysis and I would be notified by email when calibration is available.

I'm soooooo f'ing pissed right now!

You didn't mention it but did you register and then let it update via the internet? Had to do that to mine. The update took quite some time. But when done it programmed just fine.

I followed all the registration/update instructions as they said to.

DT75, I did a search on the SC forum and saw your post where this happened to you. Since we both have the same truck (TRX4), it seems to me that if this has been an issue in the past, and they're aware of it, they should have the updated calibrations available for us when we do the original online update for the tuner before trying to program the vehicle. We shouldn't have to go through this "it will take a few days to fix" BS when they know it's a problem.

Seeing these posts has me worried that mine might suffer the same issues when I get it. Are you guys seeing a big enough gain for it to be worth the hassle?

I'll let you know when I actually get mine programmed. :/

I came across another post where a guy with a GM truck roasted the top end of his engine with a SC programmer. Man, that makes me nervous. It sounds like his air/fuel was too lean and he burned the pistons. He said one actually had a 1" hole in it!

the 3865 is VERY worth it on the 08's, big difference in shiftig, a great noticable gain in HP (they claim 50hp for the 08's) and the torque management is greatly improved, worth every penny IMO. and you get to calibrate for gears and tires, real time data loging, and more,

Racinartist... i think they have to wright a custom tune for each of the 08's not really sure why that is, something with the new computers, but when you get it you will love it. i wouldnt worrie about SC hurting your engine, he probably did something stupid and trying to get SC to pay for it

a direct quote from Ron "we dont give you enough rope to hang yourself"

Ok, they hooked me up earlier with the tuning program and I got it loaded and went for a drive. I just put the 91 octane tune in it for now to see what it's like, even though the tank has 93 in it.

First impression: There's a noticeable increase in power, but it's damn sure not 50 HP. I think they claim 48HP max for the Ram so we'll see how much more punch it's got with the 93 tune in it. The most noticeable thing to me though is that the throttle is more responsive and the trans shifts stiffer and more 'positive' than before. The fly-by-wire throttle these engines have now has a delay when you stand on it, and this seems to take a LITTLE of that hesitation out of it. It also seems to shift more in the rpm range it should, compared to the old slush box feeling it had before. On the flipside, the downshifts are waaaaaaay less dramatic than before. Let's just say I can see already that I'm gonna' need better brakes on this thing. It never stopped GOOD, but now it barely stops at all. :/ haha

Anyway, I can't say I'm disappointed with spending 300 bucks on it, but like I said it's not 48HP like they claim for the Ram. At least not with the 91 tune. The claim the mileage tune for the 4.7 Ram is a 40HP increase over stock, which might be a little far fetched. I assume the AWD system on mine takes away a little from the noticability of any increase, as the 4WD probably does too. We're turning a LOT more parts than the 2WD guys. Just driving around for 10 miles or so, I can't even get a chirp out of it. And the truck never would powerbrake no matter what I try (damn I miss my 6 spd ). I'll change tunes and do some more playing around with it in the days and weeks ahead and see where I'm at with it then.

This weekend I have to drive to Atlantic City and Penna so that will give me some info on the mileage, but I'm not really expecting any increase. If anything, I almost expect the MPG to drop with the tune in it. We'll see.

On the towing tune and the mileage tune I noticed about 1 mpg better max. Overall though if I had to side with whether or not I was gaining, I would say I didnt really notice a change in mileage, only when you are being aggressive it tends to drink more than stock... Its definitely worth it in my eyes though, the shifting and throttle response is awesome!

Congrats on getting it to work. Just for everyone's FYI I bought this tuner but it will be sitting in my house until I get back from this deployment in March. I am planning on getting a custom tune by KRC so I will be turning around and selling the SC flashpaq 3865 before I ever even use it. Anyone want it for a discount?
