Go true duels man, you will love it. If memory serves, the stock is a 2.5" so anything you go over would be an improvement.

 

I have the chance to get JBA ceramic headers for about $500 which is $250 cheaper than air ram... I am really on the fence about it though... That and high flow cats. I don't think I should do true duals because I really want to go out the side in front of the rear tire.
If I get a bigger y-pipe wouldn't the piping need to be 3" too? If stock is 2.5 then that is going to be a COMPLETELY rebuilt exhaust. Sigh $$$...

The JBA units are quality pieces, even if the shorty design isn't as efficient as long tube. I think you could even retain the stock cats, which aren't too bad...you could keep them. If you are going to turn out before the tires, that is not very much $$$, But I think you will regret that decision. Get the JBA's, keep the stock cats, and buy a nice full dual cat back system.

 

How could I regret something I have already done before? That setup was great and looked very original because I bent it all myself. Sound was beautiful, and from I could tell, no performance loss. Shorter pipe = more high end power, long pipe = low end, but cuts out high end power. I'm not saying no to true duals yet, I just hate seeing EVERY truck have them.
Anyways I can't go JBA because I already got a deal on Gibson headers and went for it (titanium ceramic).
After all the hub-ub I do think it will be better to keep my stock cats though.

True duals would need an X-pipe right?

 

You can run an x-pipe or true duals. An X-pipe is a type of dual exhaust system, but not the only one.

 

I don't think I am sure about how the exhaust works after the headers. Is the y-pipe collecting two different pipes from the cats and turning it into one out the back? Or the opposite? I would look but...you know.

 

You have a down pipe coming off each exhaust manifold. Each down pipe has a cat. The pipes coming off the cats come together into the worst Y-pipe imaginable on the passenger side. From there you have a single pipe running all the way back aft.
