Alpine Speakers/Amp?
I just got a alpine 10" installed, and now I got to get some better speakers. I want some that'll be even with the sub, if that makes sense. Here are the speakers and amp I chose, can yall tell me if their a good combination? Thanks, Kyle

IMHO Alpine speakers are terrible, as are their Subs (I had one, replaced it within 2 weeks when the transient response and low-end of my girlfriend's bone stock Pioneer equiped Cobalt kicked it's ***.). The sub isn't critical at this point, however if you want speakers that are a noticeably better (Provide relatively colourless sound) try the Pioneer D-Series Coaxials (or components if you can afford to go that way).
In the price range you are looking even the Pioneer A series would be a better choice, and make sure you get at least a coaxial speaker as the full-ranges you have will not be that much better than stock (if at all). The Alipine Amp is OK, however with that too I would probably go Pioneer as Alpine equipment is really targeted at the THUMP THUMP...I DON'T CARE ABOUT 90% OF THE MUSICAL QUALITY OF MY MUSIC crowd.

that amp is going to eat those speakers up and spit them out... something with a little less power might be a better.
The speakers will certainly sound good. Some type R's will like that power a lot more, and sound a LOT better.
Do i think you will be happy with the type S's. yes.
I have installed hundreds of setups, I have yet to hear anything but a pioneer premier sound good.
I am willing to bed that my 10in type S in a .354 ft3 enclosure sounds as good as any pioneer sub out there, bar maybe the premier 1000w

I must also say that I am absolutely NOT a Pioneer fanboy. In this price range though, of all the speakers I auditioned the Pioneers were the only ones that cut the mustard so to speak. Alpine makes INCREDIBLE speakers when you are looking in their high-end components, however their low-end stuff really misses out on the love.

the premiers are good speakers.
I used to SQ for years. I started with polk, then moved on to alpine, before ending up with focal. The best sound for the buck were probably the alpines. Keep in mind, that a lot of your Sound quality comes from more than just the speakers. Everything from the enclosure they are mounted in, to the wires providing power effect it also.
What I would start with is a good head unit with clean outputs. the higher the output voltage, the better it is transferred to the amp. A 4 volt output is becoming more common, and should suffice for what your going for I think.

I will have to listen to some Alpine speakers again, the last Alpines that I liked were the SPX-17's and from what I can tell the S-series subwoofers are geared towards SPL and not SQ. My JL Audio 10W4 sounds SOOO much better than my SWS-1023 ever did. Granted it is in an entirely different category and price range.

It was hard as hell to find too!
Back to the speakers, I am doing some number comparisons here (not the end all and be-all, but interesting no less) and the Alpine type-r's only have a sensitivity around 87dB to the Pioneer's 93. Now, if my recollection recollects properly you would need nearly 4 times as much power to the Alpines for a specific output when compared to the Pioneer speakers. Not a huge issue with an amplifier but still something to consider when it is competing with a subwoofer.

I have the factory Alpine system with the 10” sound box. It’s OK but nowhere what is should be. In my 95 Dak I had the 10” Bazooka with a Alpine 300 watt amp. That was what I should had done again in this truck. As long as you can tune the active crossover built into the amp it worked perfect with the rest of the system.
