i have done some research on my towing capability, but no one can give me a straight answer for my specific truck. all i got was 3700 - 7200 towing possibilities. i have noticed the specs on my truck are better than a regular SLT, but not as good as a laramie. no one seems to know much about the sport package though

If you wanted to tow brother you should have gotten the 4.7L. The 4.7 gets about the same mileage as the 3.7 and has better horsepower and torque ratings. I too have the 3.7 but I only use my truck for light hauling in the bed and commuting so the extra couple of miles per gallon I get help me out some.

Do you have an automatic or manual?
My V6 2WD with a manual is rated at about 3,000#. I'm sure it can do more, Dodge underrates the manual transmissions to save on warranty claims.
Your automatic is probably in the 4-5000 range, I'm guessing.
But anything about 2,000# should not be attempted without trailer brakes.
The 3.7L will get the job done. I think everyone knows a 4.7 is stronger...not the point.

Yeah the above are right... the Sport Package is only appearance. It could be a Laramie, SLT or whatever with it. Its no difference performance wise. Cramerica, I would say is about in the general area for towing capabilities. Another thing you kinda left out for us to make a better judgement is your gearing. What gears are you running?

i'm not sure what my gears are. i'm really not doing any towing, but if i had to i would like to know about it. my parents have a boat that weighs about 3200 so if i needed to tow it i need to know if i can. yea i know the sport package is just for looks, but i noticed that the SLT doesn't have some interior specs that i do. so i was curious if there were any other differences between me and a SLT. i know the chevy colorado sport has locking differentials stock as well as a beefed up sway bar. i was looking for some performance differences between SLT and sport

The gears are what make the difference in that engine. I pulled my 3000# boat + 900# trailer and some gear w/ a 2007 w/ the 3.7 v6 and 3.92 w/ lmtd slip. I would not do that much weight if you had any hills to run though! That was just around town cruising.
I have also towed that same setup w/ a 2006 dakota w/ the 3.7 and 3.21 gears (both trucks wre automatics). Needless to say, the difference was dramatic from the 3.21 to the 3.92's. Either way...the truck moved the boat and gear decently, but if you want to accelerate adequately or want to attempt any type of hill at all, I would not advise towing more than 3000# total!
